The GC1 grand piano is perhaps the most obvious 'upgrade' from the Yamaha GB1 grand piano. At 5'3'' the instrument is larger, and this alone is enough to give the instrument more depth, especially in the lower registers.
Among other refinements, the GC1 also benefits from 'duplex scaling' which is a method of bringing out a fuller tone from a piano by tuning what are known as the 'non-speaking' parts of the string. The GC1 is also the first in the Yamaha grand piano range to be made at the main production facility in Japan, alongside the CX series grands and U Series uprights.
Based on the well regarded Yamaha C1M grand, but with a much smaller price tag, it makes for an excellent value alternative to a CX series piano. A new GC1M is certainly worth considering if you want a better piano than the GB1 but your budget won't quite stretch to a C1X.
Dominic Barnett – Chamberlain Pianos
The beautiful GC Series combines the duplex scaling and rich tonal character of the coveted C Series grands with cost-saving advantages in materials and production, thus creating an instrument that's both exceptionally expressive and uncommonly affordable, without compromising on quality.

Unparalleled in their beauty and musical range, grand pianos are the ultimate expression of the piano maker's art. Yamaha is proud to present a comprehensive line of incomparable grands, reflecting the very latest in Yamaha acoustic and technological advances.

The fallboard is fitted with a soft-landing mechanism that means you no longer have to worry about the fallboard shutting on your fingers unexpectedly.
