Introducing the MMX 434 Performer double bass outfit

The MMX Performer double bass outfit is the perfect choice for advancing students or young professional players, combining high quality with unrivalled value for money. Every instrument is made in the workshop of Guofang Wang, a highly respected luthier based in China. His team of expert craftsmen carve the panels by hand from carefully selected tonewoods to ensure the best possible tone.

They use solid spruce for the table, maple for the back and sides, and smooth ebony for the fingerboard. The wood is seasoned for strength before being manipulated and finished with an oil-based lacquer which improves resonance and gives it an attractive antique sheen. Each double bass is carefully set up by our in-house team of experts who adjust the soundpost and bridge precisely to each instrument. It is then strung with a set of top quality Dominant strings and further adjustments are made where needed.

The outfit comes supplied with an ultra-light carbon composite bow, padded gig bag, and a block of rosin.

MMX has been working with master luthier Guofang Wang and his family workshop for over a decade, producing a broad selection of orchestral stringed instruments. For the beginner, the Student series of violins, violas, and celli offer the best start in the playing journey right through to our Signature instruments, which are perfectly at home in professional orchestral and solo work.

Attention to detail

Each instrument is diligently cared for at every stage of the production process, ensuring incredible value for money at each price point. Attention to detail is at the heart of every MMX violin, viola, cello and double bass. The tone wood panels are sourced from the forests of Sichuan or Yunnan province and seasoned to increase their strength. The lustrous oil-based varnish is mixed to exact specifications to create a desirable antique finish which enhances both the grain and resonance of the instrument bodies. Even the fittings used are carefully selected to suit the instrument perfectly.
